The Oracle Dual Boiler is the only Sage we sell that corrects its own espresso. Auto Dial-In checks every shot for under- or over-extraction and changes the grind for the next one. Around that sit two stainless steel boilers, a grinder that grinds, doses and tamps 22 g into a 58 mm portafilter, and Auto MilQ for the milk.
Is it an Oracle Jet with boilers? Partly. The Jet tells you on screen when to grind finer or coarser; the Dual Boiler makes that change itself, brews and steams at the same time, and has a Manual mode for the day you want to take over.
Our verdict
- Strongest point: Auto Dial-In together with two boilers. The shot is corrected for you and the milk textures while the espresso runs.
- Who it is for: households that drink several milk drinks a day and want café results without first learning to dial in.
- Pick another model if: you want to grind, dose and tamp yourself (the Dynamic Duo), or you will never use Manual mode and want a narrower machine with cold brew on the menu (the Oracle Jet).
- The caveat: Sage lists it at 45.4 cm wide, 37 cm deep and 37.5 cm high. Measure your counter before you order.
Auto Dial-In: what it does and what it does not do
Sage describes Auto Dial-In as an extraction control system that monitors each espresso shot. When a shot runs too fast or too slow, the machine adjusts the grind for the next one. Two things are worth knowing. It corrects the next shot, not the one already in your cup. And you can switch it off in the settings if you would rather make that call yourself.
Why it helps at home: the same grind setting rarely gives the same shot from the first to the last cup of a bag, and every new bag starts the search again. On most machines you taste the change and turn the dial. Here the machine follows it for you.
Grind, dose and tamp
The grinder uses Baratza European Precision burrs with 45 settings, adjusted from fine to coarse on the touchscreen. Sage's Auto Puck System grinds, doses and tamps a 22 g dose straight into the 58 mm stainless steel portafilter, the size most café machines use. You still lock in the portafilter yourself, so it feels like a hands-on machine without weighing or tamping. The bean hopper holds 340 g, and the user guide is clear that it takes whole roasted beans only.
Two boilers and temperature control
The espresso and the steam each have their own stainless steel boiler, under PID temperature control. Sage calls the whole setup a triple heating system and lets you set the brew temperature in 1 °C steps. In practice: you pull the shot and steam the milk at the same time, which keeps a round of cappuccinos short.
Each shot starts with low-pressure pre-infusion, which wets the coffee gently before full extraction. A separate hot water outlet is there for long blacks, tea and warming cups.
Auto mode and Manual mode
In Auto mode the machine handles every stage, from grinding to milk. Swipe up on the drinks screen and you are in Manual mode: there you set pre-infusion, blooming and extraction time yourself, with the pressure gauge as feedback. In volume mode, a single shot is about 30 ml; in time mode you set the shot by seconds, for example 25 seconds per drink.
Manual mode is what keeps this machine interesting after the first months. Once you know what a longer pre-infusion does to a fruity espresso, you can try it without changing machines.
Milk: Auto MilQ and the steam wand
Auto MilQ textures milk from 45 to 75 °C in 9 texture levels, with separate settings for dairy, soy, almond and oat. The steam wand is cool-touch and works with a ring pull. Wipe it after every milk drink and run the steam wand cleaning from the settings menu when the screen asks for it.
Screen and app
A 5.7-inch touchscreen runs the machine. With the Sage+ Coffee app and Wi-Fi you can switch it on and pre-heat it from your phone, so it is warm when you come downstairs.
Living with it
- After each session: a clear water backflush with the cleaning disc in the basket, about 20 seconds, before you switch off. Sage recommends this in the user guide.
- When the screen asks: the cleaning cycle with The Group Head Cleaner, the cleaning powder Sage lists for the Oracle Dual Boiler.
- Descaling: the machine tells you when, and walks you through it on screen with Sage descaling powder.
- Water filter: replace it every 3 months; the ClaroSwiss water filter fits. Never use distilled or very low-mineral water, which Sage warns affects the taste.
- No dishwasher: Sage asks you to wash every part by hand.
Our Sage cleaning and descaling guide puts these steps next to those of the other Sage machines we sell.

Which coffee?
For everyday milk drinks we would start with our Houseblend: a sweet espresso blend with a full body, low acidity and notes of dark chocolate and cacao nibs. If you like more of an espresso-bar feel, take our Seasonal Blend: fruitier and livelier. For a cup in the evening, our Colombia Sugar Cane Specialty Decaf has a full body and low acidity. And if you want to explore, pick one of our single origins. Switching between them is where Auto Dial-In earns its place: the machine finds the new grind over the next few shots.
Learn it at OR Academy
With the Oracle Dual Boiler from OR Coffee, a place in a Home Barista Workshop at OR Academy is included, as stated on the product page. It is a group session on espresso and milk; you pick the date and location in the workshop calendar. Bring your questions about Manual mode: that is where a session pays off most.
Frequently asked questions
Can I switch off Auto Dial-In?
Yes. Sage's user guide lets you turn it off in the settings, after which the grind stays where you put it.
Can I use pre-ground coffee?
The user guide says the grinder takes whole roasted beans only and does not describe a pre-ground option. If you want to use pre-ground coffee, the Dual Boiler in the Dynamic Duo takes it in its dual wall baskets.
Does the Oracle Dual Boiler make cold brew?
Sage does not list cold brew or cold espresso for this model. The Oracle Jet and the Barista Touch Impress in its Cold Extraction version have both as presets.
Does it work with plant-based milk?
Yes. Auto MilQ has separate settings for soy, almond and oat, next to dairy.
How much counter space do I need?
Sage lists 45.4 x 37 x 37.5 cm (width x depth x height). That is 3 cm wider than the Oracle Jet.

How we wrote this review
The specifications come from Sage's product page for the Oracle Dual Boiler (BES995), Sage's European user guide for the SES995, Sage's pages for the Oracle Jet and the Dynamic Duo, Sage's product page for The Group Head Cleaner (the list of machines it works with), and our own product page, all checked on 22 October 2026. We have not yet published our own measurements (cup temperature, shot times, noise); we will add them once we have them. Your machine's user guide always takes precedence.
