JURA W8 review: milk drinks on a narrow counter

JURA W8 review: milk drinks on a narrow counter

The JURA W8 puts 17 specialties, cappuccino and latte macchiato among them, into a body only 29.5 cm wide. It is the most compact machine with a milk system in our JURA professional range, built for a team that wants milk drinks but has a narrow counter.

There is one version of the JURA W8, with a 3 liter tank. Its black-coffee sibling, the W4, has the same footprint without the milk system. If you are hesitating between the two, the question is simply whether anyone in the team drinks milk.

Our verdict

  • Best at: a small office, studio or meeting room where some people drink espresso and others want a cappuccino.
  • Right size for: a team of about 15 people. JURA recommends its W line for up to 50 cups a day.
  • Pick something else if: nobody drinks milk (the W4 is simpler), or you are well past 50 cups a day (look at the X10).
  • Plan for: a milk cooler and someone who refills the 3 liter tank during the day.

W8 or W4: the one question to ask

Both machines are 29.5 cm wide, 44.3 cm high and 44.6 cm deep, both use the P.A.G.2 grinder and both run from a 3 liter tank. The difference is milk. The W8 adds JURA's HP3 milk system, a separate cappuccino spout and the Coffee Eye, a sensor that helps place the cup under the right spout. The W4 makes espresso, coffee and lungo, and nothing with milk.

A milk system brings one daily task: cleaning it after milk has been used. If nobody asks for a cappuccino, the W4 saves that step. If even a third of the team takes milk, the W8 is the one that keeps everyone at the machine instead of at the café next door.

What it makes

JURA lists 17 specialties for the W8. Short coffees are brewed with the Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P.), JURA's method for short specialties, in which water passes through the coffee in pulses. The lungo function and the fine foam technology cover the long coffees and the milk drinks.

For each drink you set the water quantity, the coffee strength (10 levels), the brewing temperature (3 levels) and, for hot water, the temperature (3 levels). The machine counts preparations per drink and has a day counter you can reset, which helps if you want to know how much coffee the office really drinks.

Grinder and settings

The P.A.G.2 grinder is fed from a lockable 500 g bean container, and the brewing unit takes between 5 and 16 g of coffee per cup. When we install a W8, we set grind and strength with the first bag of our Houseblend, a full-bodied espresso blend with low acidity and notes of dark chocolate and cacao nibs, and adjust the main drinks before the team starts using it. If you would rather have an organic coffee in the bean container, our Close To Nature Blend is sweet, smooth and round, with milk or black.

There is one grinder, so one bean at a time. The W8 does have a powder chute for ground coffee: someone who wants a decaf can add a dose of our Colombia Sugar Cane Specialty Decaf, also available ground, for a single cup. For a decaf on demand all day, a two-grinder machine such as the GIGA W10 is the better fit.

Milk

The HP3 milk system with an interchangeable CX3 milk spout draws milk from a carton or a cooler next to the machine. The cappuccino spout adjusts from 107 to 153 mm, and the separate coffee and hot-water spout from 65 to 111 mm, so a tall latte glass and an espresso cup both fit.

A milk pipe with connector is in the box; a JURA Cool Control to keep the milk cold is not. JURA recommends cleaning the milk system every day milk drinks have been made, and puts the time at about two minutes. It is a one-touch program, with the cleaning container and milk system cleaner mini tabs supplied with the machine.

Living with it in an office

The W8 is easy to look after, but its compact size has a price: small containers. The 3 liter tank and the grounds container of about 25 servings both need attention on a busy day. The daily routine:

  • Empty the grounds container and the drip tray while the machine is switched on, so it registers that they are empty.
  • Top up the tank with fresh water, more than once if the team is close to 50 cups.
  • Run the milk system cleaning after the last milk drink.

The drip tray is monitored, and the rinsing, cleaning and descaling programs are built in: the display says when to run them. The CLARIS Pro Smart+ filter cartridge comes with the machine, as do the 3-phase cleaning tablets. Bean container and tank can be locked, and the lock functions let you limit access to the settings.

Payment and connectivity

On the W8, JURA supplies the Wi-Fi Connect transmitter as standard, for connecting the machine to your network. JURA also lists Smart Connect, Payment Connect and MDB Connect, with the MDB Interface 2.0 as an option, plus Pocket Pilot 2.0, JURA's web-based software for cashless payment and accounting, and the Data Communicator. Apart from the Wi-Fi transmitter, these are accessories: mention them in your quote request if you need them.

How many people is it for?

JURA recommends the W line for up to 50 cups a day. At about 3.3 cups per person per working day, that is a team of around 15 people. Check the peak too: if everyone comes for a cappuccino in the same ten minutes, the queue matters more than the daily total, and the X10 handles it better.

Buying a W8 through OR Coffee

OR Coffee is listed by Bodart, the Belgian JURA importer, as an approved dealer for JURA professional machines. You can taste and try the W8 before you decide: at our roastery in Wetteren, or at your place. Once you order, we deliver and install it, set it up with the 2 × 1 kg of Houseblend that comes with it, and do a tasting of our coffees with your team on site.

You can buy the machine outright, lease or rent it per month, or ask for a fixed price per cup that covers machine and coffee. Which option makes sense depends on how many cups you pour, so we work it out in the quote.

Frequently asked questions

How many people is the W8 for?

About 15. JURA recommends the W line for up to 50 cups a day, and an office drinks about 3.3 cups per person per working day.

Is a milk cooler included?

No. The W8 comes with a milk pipe with connector. A JURA Cool Control keeps the milk cold next to the machine and is a separate item.

Can the W8 be connected to the water supply?

JURA lists no fixed water connection for the W8; it runs from its 3 liter tank. If you want a machine on the water supply with milk, look at the X10c.

Can we make a decaf?

Yes, one cup at a time: the powder chute takes a dose of our ground Colombia Sugar Cane Specialty Decaf. The bean container holds one coffee.

Can we try it before we buy?

Yes. We set up a tasting and demo at our roastery in Wetteren, or we come to you.

Want a quote or a demo? Request one on the JURA W8 page. Tell us roughly how many people drink coffee and how many of them take milk, and we come back with the formula that fits. A tasting before you decide is possible at our roastery in Wetteren or at your place; delivery, installation and a tasting with your team come with the machine.

How we wrote this review

Every number in this article comes from JURA's official European product page for the W8 Dark Inox (EA, article 15550) and from JURA's workplace guide for the daily output, checked on 22 October 2026. W4 figures come from JURA's page for article 15542. The demo, installation, setup and tasting describe how OR Coffee sells and delivers these machines. Our own measurements (cup temperature, noise, time per cup) will follow; we will add them here and mark them as ours. For daily and weekly care, see our JURA professional cleaning guide.
